We found out we were expecting just before Thanksgiving. To say it was one of the happiest days of my life is an understatement. It took us years to get here. We married young, so initially we thought we had plenty of time. We built a house, travelled, went back to school. We assumed having a family would just "happen". Somewhere after I turned 30, the panic started to set in and we started to take things more seriously. But looking back, life had a way of getting in the way. We lost three very close family members in the span of three years, and it was a very stressful time.
We spent a lot of time with Marks grandmother, especially in the months before she passed. She knew we wanted children but its not something we really talked about. A couple weeks before she passed we had learned that she had been more vocal to others about "when" we have our children, believing it would happen soon and although she wasn't worried about me when it happened, she was sure that "Mark would be a wreck". ha,ha. We got pregnant four months after she passed away and we believe that she is among several angels who had a hand in it. It took many appointments, labs, ovulation kits, thyroid surgery, and fertility drugs later, but we were finally exactly where we desperately hoped but feared we might never end up.
We didn't think that anything could make us happier.... until we found out a few weeks later we were expecting twins!! Even though we've been married.....gulp....10 years, this feels like where our journey has just begun!
